Reach the Galleria, reach Houston.

Reach Houston, reach the world.

Former Prime Minister of The Netherlands Abraham Kuyper famously said, “There is not a square inch in the whole of creation over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry: “Mine!’” And the Scots Reformer John Knox reputedly exclaimed, “Give me Scotland Lord, or I die!”

We feel the same about Houston and the Galleria area in particular.  God called us to this global city and to this place in the city, has planted us in this geography, and has given us a burning desire to see the people in it reconciled to God and one another and every square inch of it renewed for His glory.  We long for others to know Jesus is King over all creation, not just Sunday mornings and Sunday spaces, and that everything we do from Monday to Saturday matters to him: our work and rest and play are His idea and so from Him and for Him.  All that is not sin is sacred.  He is Sovereign over all.

He is Sovereign over all; He is also the Savior of the world.  Westheimer Road runs down the center of our Galleria geography like a spine, like a concrete river, dividing one of the wealthiest areas on earth from one of the most international, interesting, and needy.  North of Westheimer is one world – affluent, educated, and largely white.  South is another –  a patchwork quilt of nations, including massive blocs of Hispanics, Arabs, Indians, Africans, and East Asians.  We have a heart for both hemispheres and the peoples and places in them, and we long to see them united and restored by Jesus and through His body, the church, for the sake of His great name.  As one member of Christ’s larger Body in Houston, we yearn to labor alongside other local churches in this endeavor.

Jesus is the Lord of the nations, and the nations are here.  Reach the Galleria, reach Houston.  Reach Houston, reach the world.  The Galleria is a lever for reaching the world and seeing it redeemed and renewed for Christ the King.  We believe that God has placed us here and now (Acts 17.26) to hold out the hope of the gospel for such a time as this (Esther 4.14).
